The great thing about the retail sales industry is that every city has one. No matter how small the settlement, people need to buy things like food and organic baby shampoo, so they turn to shops and the people who work in them for assistance. Retail also has job opportunities for people of a variety of skill levels from unskilled sales clerks to managers to the owners of the business themselves. If you have experience in the retail industry or no experience at all, you should be able to find a sales job in Tucson fairly easily.

Resume Building

Before you head out to the shops to look for work, we recommend that you do up your resume. Most franchise stores will have their own applications for you to fill out detailing your availability and experience with gardening hand tools or whatnot, but it always pays to have a resume to hand out. It shows you're serious about finding work. On your resume play up any skills or experience you have in helping people, managing money, and being reliable. These are the things retail stores look for.

Where to Look For Work

There are two different types of store prevalent in Tucson. First there are the franchise stores that sell things like Blackberry holsters or fashionable clothing. These tend to cluster in malls. The best places to find jobs in franchise stores are: the Tucson Mall, the Foothills Mall, the Park Place Mall, and the El Con Mall. Between them they have hundreds of stores. Choose one near your place of residence. It tends to be easier to get a job in a mall franchise store simply because they generally pay minimum wage and their employees are always moving on.

Second there are the mom-and-pop type independent shops, which tend to congregate in walkable districts, like downtown Tucson, Campbell Avenue, Fourth Avenue, Main Gate Square, and Plaza Palomino, but can be located anywhere in the city. Usually to get a job at an independently owned shop, you'll have to demonstrate your knowledge or interest in Allis Chalmers water pumps or whatever they're selling. The family atmosphere in smaller shops usually means help sticks around longer.

Interviews

Just because retail sales jobs are largely unskilled and fairly easy to come by does not mean you're a shoo-in for the position as soon as you show up. You'll still have to pass an interview. Your employers will want you to reassure them that you're responsible, trustworthy, friendly, and interested in the success of their business. So even if you don't care about wall words or you dislike other people, pretend and keep pretending as long as you work there. Who knows? You might change your mind.
